Shaw Elementary opened in 1982, and is named after Ruby Shaw, of the Lawrence Family. Ruby Shaw Elementary organizes a variety of extracurricular activities, such as book fairs, children's book weeks, community service projects, field trips and picture days. The school maintains a parent-teacher association that conducts monthly meetings and organizes various events and activities for the overall development of the school.
Ruby Shaw Elementary has an annual enrollment of nearly 600 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. We are known for our community Walks, which take place during each and every school break, in which staff take books and treats to student homes. Students have several leadership opportunities and clubs they can join, such as National Junior Honor Society, News Crew, Crazy 8 Math Club, Running Club, Soccer Team, and more.
Kim Banuelos has been the principal of Shaw Elementary for the past 4 years. She has served in public education for over twenty years, and in four school districts, in positions from teacher, to district level Instructional Specialist and Curriculum Writer, to administrator.
Mrs. Banuelos has five children of her own, with the youngest still in attendance at Shaw Elementary. She also lives in the neighborhood because she is passionate about our campus. Don’t be surprised to see Mrs. Banuelos knocking on your door!
